What Is Functional Medicine?
Functional medicine is a patient-centered approach to healthcare that investigates why chronic illnesses and symptoms occur and restores health by addressing the root cause. Rather than masking symptoms with medication, functional medicine doctors ask:
- What systems in the body are not working?
- Why is this dysfunction occurring?
- How can we restore optimal balance using evidence-based medicine and holistic medicine principles?
For example, instead of prescribing sleep medication for insomnia, a functional practitioner will ask what is disrupting your sleep, hormone imbalances, stress, poor blood sugar control, gut health imbalances, or something deeper.
How Does Functional Medicine Work?
Instead of focusing on one symptom at a time, we look at your whole story to understand what your body truly needs to feel better. Here’s how we work with you to get to the root of your symptoms and support lasting wellness.
- Understanding your health story: We consider your symptoms, health history, life events, genetic makeup, and environment.
- Advanced testing: Our testing checks for things like nutrient deficiencies, hormone patterns, inflammation, and gut imbalances that standard panels often miss.
- Personalized root-cause strategy: Your plan might include hormone support, gut healing protocols, weight loss strategies, IV nutrient therapy and lifestyle adjustments.
- Ongoing partnership: Functional medicine is a long-term collaboration, not a one-time prescription.
This approach is ideal for people with unresolved chronic diseases, irritable bowel issues, autoimmune disorders, or those simply wanting to optimize long-term health through a holistic medicine framework.
