WHAT IS BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY?

Bioidentical Hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is a medical treatment that involves taking hormones to treat or relieve symptoms of menopause and reduce the risk of diseases such as osteoporosis. This type of treatment is given when the body does not produce enough natural hormones, most commonly estrogen and progesterone, which are female sex hormones.

BHRT can also replace hormones produced by the body when it no longer makes enough of them. In some cases, bioidentical hormones are given for this reason.

In women who have been through menopause or have had their uterus removed, estrogen and progesterone replacement is used to prevent symptoms such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness and to reduce the risk of conditions such as osteoporosis, heart disease, and cognitive decline.

In men who have low testosterone levels due to hypogonadism or other medical conditions, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy can be used to treat symptoms such as erectile dysfunction or low libido and improve overall sense of well-being.
